STAGE SELECT YOSHITSUGU: Is it clear to you now, Mitsunari? If we are to triumph in this battle, we will need the might of the Saika behind us. MITSUNARI: Do you think so, Yoshitsugu? To seek the aid of forces not under Lord Hideyoshi's control... It seems almost blasphemous. YOSHITSUGU: Of course! But what if you knew Ieyasu was also seeking an alliance with Saika? MITSUNARI: Really? YOSHITSUGU: It would be foolish to allow him to consolidate such power, don't you think? MITSUNARI: Ieyasu... you took everything from me... And I promise I, in turn, will take everything from you!
STAGE SELECT - SAIKA STRONGHOLD MITSUNARI: Quickly Yoshitsugu! We cannot allow Ieyasu to simply do as he pleases! YOSHITSUGU: Gracious no! After you, sir.
SAIKA STRONGHOLD - STAGE DIALOG MAGOICHI: I welcome you Mitsunari. Have you also come to court an alliance? MITSUNARI: Save your pleasantries, and swear allegiance to Lord Hideyoshi immediately! MAGOICHI: I think not. Such a friendship must be earned, and we have yet to test your mettle. MITSUNARI: Ieyasu... I will not let you take anything else from me... I swear it! MITSUNARI: Do you see what I can do!? The strength Lord Hideyoshi has entrusted in me?! MAGOICHI: It is a blessing to have eyes so keen.
SAIKA STRONGHOLD - WITH MAGOICHI AND IEYASU MITSUNARI: [Hears the red bell, realizes Ieyasu has made a pact with the Saika.] Ieyasu... IEYASU-! [He runs forward and attacks Ieyasu.] IEYASU: [Blocks his blade.] Mitsu...nari...! You came to the Saika, as I did. MAGOICHI: [Shoots at Mitsunari. He blocks with the blade and jumps backwards.] MITSUNARI: None of that matters anymore. Prepare yourself, Ieyasu! I'm going to kill you here and now! But you, Magoichi Saika, you stay out of this. MAGOICHI: You forget this is our land, and you are an intruder. [Honda flies down and Ieyasu jumps on his back to escape.] MITSUNARI: Ieyasu, don't you dare run away! IEYASUUU! ...Magoichi... how dare you?! MAGOICHI: What? Do you have something to say to me? MITSUNARI: Lord Hideyoshi, please grant me permission to kill her! [He runs forward and the battle begins.]
SAIKA STRONGHOLD - VS. MAGOICHI MITSUNARI: I came to you in good faith. And yet you ally with him! MAGOICHI: He was the better negotiator. You'll get over it. MITSUNARI: Really... At what point did you deem me the inferior ally? MAGOICHI: My god you like to whine. Honestly, you're acting like a spoiled child. MITSUNARI: How dare you say such things to me! I demand you bow your head, and apologize for your slander! MAGOICHI: Oh, I see. You're uncomfortable with how you measure up to a man like Ieyasu. MITSUNARI: I will deliver Ieyasu your head! I will plunge him into war and devastation! MAGOICHI: [When defeated:] Your hate clouds you, and makes you unworthy.
STAGE SELECT MITSUNARI: Ieyasu... You follow me, blocking my way at every turn! When will your desire to ruin me be satisfied? YOSHITSUGU: Who can tell? He is a wicked man... MITSUNARI: Thank you for sharpening my resolve, Yoshitsugu. I swear that I will have him drawn and quartered, and I will meet his gaze as the last tatters of his soul abandon his ruined and dying flesh. YOSHITSUGU: What better way to show your respect to Lord Hideyoshi?
KARASU CASTLE - STAGE DIALOG HIDEAKI: Oh... Mitsunari's here! TENKAI: It's all right, Hideaki. I am right here by your side... MITSUNARI: Every time I see his face, I fight the urge to cut him to pieces. YOSHITSUGU: All in a day's work. HIDEAKI: Well, this is a surprise, isn't it? What can I do for you? MITSUNARI: ... MITSUNARI: Hideaki and his attitude. It sickens me. YOSHITSUGU: He's confident today. Perhaps he's been drinking. MITSUNARI: If you have time to stuff yourself, you have time to work for the Toyotomi! HIDEAKI: Alright... YOSHITSUGU: You should have behaved yourself, Hideaki. So, what should we do with him now, Mitsunari?
KARASU CASTLE - VS. HIDEAKI MITSUNARI: Hideaki... I demand an explanation for your confidence. HIDEAKI: Uh... no reason! I mean, I did receive a letter from Ieyasu... MITSUNARI: A letter?! HIDEAKI: He asked me to join his forces! Said he recognized my talents... Me! MITSUNARI: You... after all Lord Hideyoshi has done for you... You repay him with betrayal?! HIDEAKI: Well Lord Hideyoshi isn't here, is he!? And I don't have to do anything you say! HIDEAKI: You heard me! Unlike you, Lord Ieyasu is a kind and just lord! MITSUNARI: Hideaki... you traitor!
KARASU CASTLE - WITH HIDEAKI MITSUNARI: [Grabs Hideaki by the collar and lifts him up.] You're going to say it. "I will deny Ieyasu's request." Your life depends on it. SAY IT! HIDEAKI: Stop it, I'll say it! I'll deny Ieyasu's request! MITSUNARI: [As Hideaki says it, he tosses him to the ground. Hideaki begins to crawl away.] I despise nothing more than betrayal. [He hits his sword against the dome on Hideaki's back.] You're going to turn your loyalties against Ieyasu. You will make certain he feels the sting of your treachery! HATE HIM! HURT HIM! TORTURE HIM! DESTROY HIM! HIDEAKI: I'm sorryyyyy! MITSUNARI: [As Hideaki sniffles, Mitsunari walks away.]
STAGE SELECT YOSHITSUGU: Mitsunari, I don’t mean to alarm you, but it seems Ujimasa has formed an alliance with Ieyasu. MITSUNARI: Ujimasa? Are you talking about that senile old fool? YOSHITSUGU: The one who was defeated under the banner of Lord Hideyoshi. That would be him. MITSUNARI: That withered old man still draws breath only because of Lord Hideyoshi’s mercy! And yet he allies himself with Ieyasu!? That ignorant, arrogant fool! It’s unforgivable! YOSHITSUGU: What should we do? MITSUNARI: What do you think? Next time we meet, I will end his worthless, traitorous life!
STAGE SELECT - NOSHIMA YOSHITSUGU: Mitsunari... may I make a suggestion? MITSUNARI: Go ahead, Yoshitsugu. Speak up. YOSHITSUGU: I have approached the Oracle, in an attempt to persuade her to ally with the Western Army. MITSUNARI: What are you talki- Oh... That Oracle. YOSHITSUGU: That Oracle. Her power would be quite an asset. Don’t you agree? MITSUNARI: Must I keep repeating myself? Of course it would be an asset! Now, let us be off. YOSHITSUGU: I am here to serve your wisdom, sir.
NOSHIMA - STAGE DIALOG TSURUHIME: Well, there you are! I do not accept! I refuse to join the Western Army! MITSUNARI: I think we're the victim of bad timing, Yoshitsugu. YOSHITSUGU: It’s not the timing, but the outcome that sours me, sir. MITSUNARI: Enough regret. Let’s kill her and be done with it. TSURUHIME: Magoichi told me all about you! She said you are both very untrustworthy individuals! MITSUNARI: Magoichi... Why must you insist on meddling in my affairs?!
NOSHIMA - VS. TSURUHIME TSURUHIME: Shame on you, Yoshitsugu! Trying to deceive me with your flattery! YOSHITSUGU: ... TSURUHIME: You said I was pretty, gorgeous even! The most desirable girl in the west, perhaps the world! You told me you had intentions of marriage! YOSHITSUGU: ... TSURUHIME: And that is why I am joining the Eastern Army! MITSUNARI: No you don’t! I won’t allow it! TSURUHIME: At least Ieyasu is not a liar! And, I might add that the Twilight Ninja has joined up with them! MITSUNARI: Stop saying that name! Everyone is “Ieyasu this” and “Ieyasu that”! [Tsuruhime defeated.] YOSHITSUGU: She’s gone... straight to the Eastern Army. Despite her modest exterior, she is quite the lady of action. MITSUNARI: Then after I finish with Ieyasu, her head will be the next that I collect.
NAKATOMIGAWA - STAGE DIALOG MOTOCHIKA: Mitsunari Ishida, I wish to speak with you! MITSUNARI: What could you possibly want to talk about, Motochika? You were Lord Hideyoshi's foe, which means we, too, are in opposition. Or has the sea air addled your senses? [The above exchange is also in Motochika's red route.] MITSUNARI: Here you are, asking for an alliance for no reason I can clearly see. It doesn’t inspire trust. MOTOCHIKA: Worried about betrayal? That’s fair. You’re clearly a better judge of character than I am. MOTOCHIKA: Don’t worry, I know all about betrayal, at the hands of someone like Ieyasu!
NAKATOMIGAWA - VS. MOTOCHIKA MITSUNARI: So explain to me why you wish to form an alliance. MOTOCHIKA: All I want is to fight against Ieyasu! MOTOCHIKA: The villain... he betrayed me, and destroyed Shikoku...! MOTOCHIKA: He is not the man I thought I knew! He is beyond forgiveness! MITSUNARI: To fight Ieyasu... is that really the only reason you seek to form an alliance? MOTOCHIKA: What? What has vexed you now?
NAKATOMIGAWA - POST-BATTLE MOTOCHIKA: [He's crouching as usual.] Agh... Well done. Hmph, now I'm sure an alliance with you will succeed. [He stands up, and offers his hand to Mitsunari.] MITSUNARI: [Looks at him, looks at his hand, and looks away.] MOTOCHIKA: [His hand drops to his side. He begins to talk, and walks up to Mitsunari.] I respect you, Mitsunari. You're a man who lives by his principles. [He leans in to get a look at Mitsunari's face. Mitsunari looks down. Motochika leans back, and starts walking in the other direction.] Truly. I don't think you're half as wicked as your reputation. MITSUNARI: But I think your reputation suits you well. In your eyes, I see no hatred. Ieyasu shouldn't have sent such a poor liar. MOTOCHIKA: I do not lie. To have my revenge, I'll do what must be done. MITSUNARI: Tch. [He walks up to Motochika, and shoves him out of his way.] They look to him for guidance, hanging on his every word. They bow to his every whim. What they cannot give, the Fates present before him. That smug creature took everything away from me. Ieyasu... I will never forgive you for what you have done!
YUKIMURA ALLIES WITH MITSUNARI YUKIMURA: Hellooo! Greetings to you! I am Yukimura Sanada! I have come today, in the hope of meeting the general... Mitsunari Ishida. So that joined together... we can fight Ieyasu! YOSHITSUGU: Hmm... Yukimura, the young cub of Takeda. What business brings you to the gates of the Western Army? YUKIMURA: Because... it had always been the desire of my mentor, Lord Shingen Takeda. MITSUNARI: Really? To fight against Ieyasu? YOSHITSUGU: Calm yourself, Mitsunari. Yukimura, we gladly accept your allegiance, and could not hope for a better ally. YUKIMURA: I thank you, and I think you'll find the forces of Shingen to be invaluable in your battle against Ieyasu. MITSUNARI: Ieyasu, Ieyasu, IEYASU, IEYASU! Everyone persists on repeating that name in front of me!
YUKIMURA ALLIES WITH MITSUNARI -- YUKIMURA RED ROUTE VER. YUKIMURA: Hellooo! Greetings to you! I am Yukimura Sanada! I have come today, in the hope of meeting the general... Mitsunari Ishida. So that joined together... we can fight Ieyasu! YOSHITSUGU: That's quite enough oration. We read your letter, so we already know about your intentions. YUKIMURA: Uh... And...? YOSHITSUGU: We accept, right, Mitsunari? MITSUNARI: I have no objections. However... I do have one question. Why exactly would you choose to march against Ieyasu? YUKIMURA: Because... it had always been the desire of my mentor, Lord Shingen Takeda. MITSUNARI: Is that all? YUKIMURA: No! Also... I have to find out what my mentor saw in him. Why is he important? MITSUNARI: This tedious discourse interests me not at all... You have your reasons... Do what you want... YUKIMURA: You have my gratitude!
STAGE SELECT - ITSUKUSHIMA YOSHITSUGU: Understand, Mitsunari. If you are to fight against Ieyasu, you will require Motonari’s forces. MITSUNARI: Whatever for, Yoshitsugu? A man with sentiment for such a wretched patch of land has no place in my future empire. [CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN WHAT IS UP WITH THIS FUTURE EMPIRE THING... this dialog gets recycled elsewhere and it doesn't make any sense there either. Mistranslation/localization quirk?] YOSHITSUGU: Perhaps. But in the coming battle against Ieyasu, you cannot afford any uncertainties. Trust me, if you desire victory, you will need this man’s allegiance. MITSUNARI: As you wish, but let’s act swiftly. We must waste no more time in our quest to deliver that villain a brutal death! [BONUS DIALOG IN YOSHITSUGU'S RED ROUTE] YOSHITSUGU: You are wise beyond your years, Mitsunari. Remember young warrior, everything I do is for justice, and for you.
ITSUKUSHIMA - STAGE DIALOG MITSUNARI: Do as I say, and don’t you dare talk back to me! MOTONARI: You ignorant fool... How dare you speak to me in such a manner? YOSHITSUGU: My apologies, Motonari. He can be very rude. MOTONARI: I don’t want apologies. I want restitution.
ITSUKUSHIMA - VS. MOTONARI MITSUNARI: I demand your obedience! And should you mention Ieyasu's name in my presence, I will cut out the tongue that offends me! MOTONARI: This little lover's spat between you and Ieyasu fails to interest me. MITSUNARI: All the world's hate and rage and malice I have saved for him, and I swear I will not rest until Lord Hideyoshi is avenged! MOTONARI: But your bitterness is extraordinary. I had heard tales of Mitsunari's unwavering loyalty... But it turns out he's even more of a fool than I could have hoped.
ITSUKUSHIMA - AFTER DEFEATING MOTONARI MOTONARI: [Injured, he falls to one knee.] MITSUNARI: I'm not going to repeat myself. I give orders, you obey without question. MOTONARI: [His head turns sharply, and then Mitsunari slices him.] Agh--! [He slides on his back, and then backflips onto one knee, panting. Mitsunari gazes impassively. Motonari looks at him and smirks.] Hmph. As you wish. I suppose we're both allied to Yoshitsugu. Tell me, where does all that rage come from? MITSUNARI: I don't know what you mean. MOTONARI: Hmph. That is remarkable. You have no idea what you are. You really are that ignorant. MITSUNARI: [Puts his hand on his sword as a warning.] MOTONARI: If I were to die, you would stand alone against Ieyasu. ...So go ahead and kill me. [He stares him down.] MITSUNARI: [Stares right back at him... and then relaxes his stance.]
STAGE SELECT YOSHITSUGU: I fear we might be in a bit of trouble, Mitsunari. MITSUNARI: What could be worse than knowing Ieyasu’s heart still beats within his chest? YOSHITSUGU: Yes, besides that... I have news concerning the Maeda Clan. MITSUNARI: What has happened? YOSHITSUGU: The Maeda Clan now has good relations with Tokugawa. I had sent spies to work against such an event, but, well... MITSUNARI: You mean... the Maeda Clan has formed an alliance with Ieyasu? YOSHITSUGU: Regretfully my plans have failed. I beg your forgiveness.
ISHIGAKIBARU - STAGE DIALOG MITSUNARI: The time has come. Join me in my fight, Kanbe! KANBE: Is that all? What, am I supposed to just fall in line now? KANBE: I’ve been thinking about the past, and I realize that it was you! You’re the reason these shackles are on me! KANBE: What do you intend to do now? Are you gonna let me go? MITSUNARI: [Reaction to Drillatron?] The dirt suits you, Kanbe.
ISHIGAKIBARU - VS. KANBE KANBE: Yeah, that’s not gonna happen. I think I’ll take my chances with Ieyasu. KANBE: At least Ieyasu knows how to show a man a little respect. MITSUNARI: Mongrel... hold your tongue! MITSUNARI: Even in a land so remote it may as well be the ends of the earth... I must be subjected to his name! MITSUNARI: How much more must I suffer at his hands?!
STAGE SELECT YOSHITSUGU: Mitsunari... I fear we may have been dealt another foul hand. MITSUNARI:Again? What is it now, Yoshitsugu? YOSHITSUGU: Date, of Oshu, has formed an alliance with Ieyasu. It is hard to believe they would act so irresponsibly at a time when the country is on the verge of collapse! MITSUNARI: I don’t care! It doesn’t matter who he chooses to ally with. I will see to it that he meets his end. YOSHITSUGU: Do not underestimate the weight of this. Securing Oshu means that assaulting his forces from the rear will be next to impossible. MITSUNARI: So, it is his plan to continue recruiting until there is no one left?! Very well! Ieyasu... I will peel your life from you in the cruelest way imaginable!
STAGE SELECT - SEKIGAHARA MITSUNARI: The time has finally come! Lord Hideyoshi, in the battle to come, please grant me the strength to do what is necessary to find victory. And when the battle is over, grant me forgiveness for what I have done.
SEKIGAHARA - WITH YOSHITSUGU AND HIDEAKI MITSUNARI: Ridiculous. How much longer must I wait? YOSHITSUGU: Have patience, Mitsunari-- MITSUNARI: I can bear it no longer! It's time! And don't you dare try and stop me! [He turns, only to see Hideaki.] HIDEAKI: Enough! I've had enough! Finally I can say how much I hate you! I won't betray Ieyasu no matter what! So go away! The only person I'd betray is Mitsunari! MITSUNARI: You... traitorous... cur! HIDEAKI: [Screams and runs away.] MITSUNARI: Ieyasu, I'LL KILL YOUUU!
SEKIGAHARA - STAGE DIALOG [Gonna have to come back to this at some point to fix it up.] MITSUNARI: Ieyasu! Ieyasu! IEYASUUUU! MITSUNARI: I will never forgive you! Never! Nothing in this world will hold back my vengeance! IEYASU: Why would you champion hatred, Mitsunari? Why nurse these sins of old? MITSUNARI: Your time is up, Hideaki! HIDEAKI: You’re a bully, Mitsunari, and I hope you fail! MITSUNARI: Hideaki! I will make you pay for your disrespect! IEYASU: With just one bond, we can rid this land of the violence that plagues it! We could flourish as a nation united! MITSUNARI: Ieyasu! You... How dare you say such things to me?! After everything you’ve done! MITSUNARI: I can never forgive you! And yet they all flock to your side! How can they so easily forgive you of your sins? MAGOICHI: You may earn both fear and praise, but no allies. TSURUHIME: You are like a wind that sweeps everything away. [Not sure if this is generic dialog or not.] MITSUNARI: You took everything from me when I had done nothing! And still you spew your empty words at me! MITSUNARI: My fury is just! And it shall not be quenched until I have your head on a pike! HIDEAKI: [After he makes it to Ieyasu’s camp:] B-b-but wait! Ieyasu said I could join his army! I... well... to tell the truth, I want nothing to do with you! MITSUNARI: Hideaki... You BASTARD! YOSHITSUGU: It is my own doing, for having forged a pact with such a monster! I vow to make amends within three years time!
SEKIGAHARA - CONFRONTING IEYASU MITSUNARI: Though you have assembled a mighty army... and though you have spoken your pretty speeches... even now, I still see right through you. Ieyasu... your sins have found you out! IEYASU: Mitsunari... MITSUNARI: Now... bow down in reverence to Lord Hideyoshi, beg his forgiveness for your crimes, and then... offer up your life as penance. IEYASU: I cannot. My cause is righteous. MITSUNARI: It always has to be this way dealing with you, doesn't it? You ignore your own ambitions, pretending to cling to your moral superiority, while challenging Lord Hideyoshi's dreams of unification! IEYASU: You are deluded, Mitsunari, but know this: I will unite this country with or without you! MITSUNARI: How much will it take before you're satisfied? How much?! Even the last of my allies you woo to your side with your forked tongue! How am I supposed to live!? What am I supposed to do now?! [BONUS DIALOG IN IEYASU'S RED ROUTE:] Mark well my words. I will never surrender, Ieyasu. Even if I find myself alone, even when I lay gasping on my deathbed, I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU! IEYASU: Go ahead, Mitsunari. Fight me with all the strength you have. But know this. I will never admit defeat, or surrender! I can't fail! I will have peace for my power!
SEKIGAHARA - VS. IEYASU MITSUNARI: I've had enough of your lies to last a lifetime! Of your ego... of your greed! Prepare to be crushed beneath the weight of your sins! IEYASU: I cannot die today! Too many have placed their faith in me! MITSUNARI: Even now you can't help but spew your hateful lies, you hypocrite! Go ahead, it fuels my rage like nothing else! IEYASU: Like nothing else? Really? You have changed quite a bit, haven't you?! MITSUNARI: Don't you dare claim to know me! To know what I've been through! Enough talk! Come and fight me Ieyasu! MITSUNARI: This feeling, this... covetousness.. perhaps when I have finally removed you from this earth... I will find the peace I once possessed! IEYASU: Then let us fight! And I will prove myself worthy of the faith that has been placed upon me! MITSUNARI: I will expose the sins for which you are guilty to the world! And may they damn you to hell for all eternity!
SEKIGAHARA - AFTER KILLING IEYASU MITSUNARI: [Laughter.] He's dead! I did it! Lord Hideyoshi, I did it! [He continues laughing. It trails off, and he falls to his knees.] ...It's just... it's empty. Hey... hey, get up. You dare disobey? Get up. I command you to rise to your feet so that I can kill you again! ...Ieyasu... You had to die. I killed you in Lord Hideyoshi's name. Your death was in service to Lord Hideyoshi... wasn't it? Why is it that now that you are gone, my life seems to have lost its meaning...? [Screams and clutches his head and throws a tantrum. He lifts his head and begins to cry. Calmer, he says the following as he begins to stagger away:] I have been a fool. I must go and beg forgiveness for my selfishness... Lord Hideyoshi...
POST-CREDITS MITSUNARI: I feel my spirit begin to wane... for it is done...
OSAKA CASTLE, WITH KANBE: MITSUNARI: [Brief scuffle.] Kanbe... KANBE: You're earlier than I expected, Mitsunari. Sorry, "Dark King". You know, I just gotta ask. You still get to be king if you lose the castle? MITSUNARI: What the hell are you doing here, Kanbe? KANBE: I thought I told you. You were full of yourself, and not preparing for an actual fight. So I attacked your rear, and won. MITSUNARI: You know damn well that's not what I meant. ...Kanbe, you will gain nothing! You are a mongrel rolling in your filth! Your presence defiles the spirit and integrity of my lord's castle! Prepare for punishment! [He rushes at him.] [Battle dialog:] MITSUNARI: Run away, and never return! Else, I'll squeeze a cry for mercy from your throat! KANBE: Such a pretty mouth on you.
SEKIGAHARA, WITH MASAMUNE MASAMUNE: I bet it seems like you've had nothing but disappointments since you began your travels. So, got anything to say for yourself, O Dark King? MITSUNARI: Would it matter...? I don't deny that the road has been difficult to walk. But I know all that I need to know about you. All the evil I have faced, all of it can find its origins in your heart. Yes! I find you guilty, you filthy beast! MASAMUNE: So, you're callin' me a filthy beast? Hah. You may have a point. But the path you've walked was your own, right? I think that puts the blame squarely on your shoulders. MITSUNARI: Really. MASAMUNE: I've said it from the start: as a successor, you're a total disaster [he draws his six claws] and Hideyoshi Toyotomi was nothing more than a shameful old fool! MITSUNARI: [Enraged, runs at Masamune and the battle begins.]
SEKIGAHARA, WITH YOSHITSUGU AFTER KILLING MASAMUNE MITSUNARI: He said I am unfit to inherit my lord's command. That I am nothing but a disgrace to my lord. Is that all...? Is that every accusation? Is it? I will show him what I am. He will learn why I have been chosen to be the right hand of my lord! Just you watch! He will see my works and tremble! YOSHITSUGU: But sir, you don't have any enemies left within the bounds of our country. To whom will you be trying to prove your might? MITSUNARI: It's obvious! To the world! I WILL EXTEND LORD HIDEYOSHI'S WILL TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH! I will finish out his works, and he will be immortalized the world over. He will look upon me, and know that I was faithful.
HIDEAKI ALLIES WITH MITSUNARI GENERAL: My lord! It's beyond belief, but... Hideaki has declared war on the Eastern Army! IEYASU: Hideaki? But he trembles at the thought of Mitsunari! Are you certain of this? GENERAL: Uh... begging your pardon, Lord... Our letter infuriated the Dark King, who put the screws to Hideaki... IEYASU: I see...! Heh... Ahahahaha! GENERAL: Uh... my lord...? IEYASU: Of course he did! Mitsunari is nothing if not consistent! An actor looking to capture the spirit of Mitsunari could do no better. GENERAL: My lord, this is not a laughing matter! IEYASU: Perhaps you're right... How deeply you detest me, Mitsunari. What wouldn't you give to see my head roll...? Hah... ahahaha...
MOTOCHIKA ALLIES WITH MITSUNARI IEYASU: Heh. Why the long face? This should come as no surprise. It's simple, really. Motochika has behaved exactly as one might expect of him. GENERAL: Uh... how exactly is that, my lord? IEYASU: Once Mitsunari sets his sights upon something, there's no changing his mind. He plods ahead, with no thought of finesse or compromise. He's a fool reaching for the moon. GENERAL: My lord? IEYASU: For all his wrath, Mitsunari is a man burdened with a wounded heart. And my friend Motochika is possessed of a generous soul. His sympathies veer towards those who suffer, be they man or demon. Our foe is in good hands. GENERAL: Then... this setback should not concern us? IEYASU: No, for all of my jesting, this is a grave development. But perhaps this rare moment of laughter will serve us in good stead. Just be glad I don't start laughing in front of the men...! Hahahahahaha! GENERAL: Thankfully, yes, my lord...
SEKIGAHARA - MITSUNARI VS. IEYASU MITSUNARI: Laugh, Ieyasu! Go right ahead! Laugh at this forlorn wretch before you! IEYASU: Your suffering does not delight me, nor does anyone's! MITSUNARI: You rob me of my allies, isolate me and then reproach me for my want of brotherhood! Make sense of this hypocrisy, if you dare even try! Your ideals are lies! Admit them as such! Then apologize to Lord Hideyoshi like the mongrel you are! IEYASU: I will never apologize, and I will never renounce the bonds I have formed! MITSUNARI: Are you really so arrogant as to be unable to pretense grief!? Or mercy!? After you have deprived me of Lord Hideyoshi!? I shall be the one to banish you from this world, IEEYAASUUUUUUUU! IEYASU: Mitsunari Ishida... behold your executioner!
FLASHBACK - IEYASU AND MITSUNARI MITSUNARI: I've devoted my life to his lordship Hideyoshi. As a member of the Toyotomi, you should too. IEYASU: How can you say such a thing? A man's life is his own. Why live it as his lordship's pawn? MITSUNARI: I had thought you would appreciate the virtue of loyalty. I was wrong. There's nothing left to say. IEYASU: Mitsunari, you're making too much of this, my friend. MITSUNARI: Then bow your head in apology. Your pride is unseemly. IEYASU: Mitsunari... My debasing myself does you no honor. MITSUNARI: You prefer your hollowed out words and empty ideas? Is that all you're worth, Ieyasu? IEYASU: Mitsunari, watch out! MITSUNARI: Why did you save me?! Do you think I can't defend myself?! Begone! May you die alone like a dog! IEYASU: Hateful words. How can you speak them so easily?
ITSUKUSHIMA - MITSUNARI AND YOSHITSUGU YOSHITSUGU: It's not yet rained, not with these stars that I see before me. I hope and pray for a glorious death to descend from the heavens and take me from this world. O divine stardust, bestow glory on me, and grant me deliverance. MITSUNARI: Yoshitsugu. YOSHITSUGU: Ahh, Mitsunari. MITSUNARI: Motonari is ready for battle. Let's go. YOSHITSUGU: [Thinking to himself:] It is truly astonishing how little this man has. Even I have not seen one single thing that he could call his own. "I need no money, no honor, no men" he boasts. He even lacks interest in eating. Quite amusing. Such a simple task to kill this man. Silence and stealth is all that's required. But I cannot let him die, not yet. Not until this realm is infested with misery. MITSUNARI: Enough of this. It is time.
STAGE SELECT - KARASU CASTLE YOSHITSUGU: Assuring Hideaki’s obedience will not be a problem. One sharp blow is all that’s needed. MITSUNARI: ... YOSHITSUGU: What now, Mitsunari? MITSUNARI: Yoshitsugu... I feel... every fiber of my being tells me that Hideaki is worth nothing to us while he still lives. YOSHITSUGU: You have a tendency to kill any man who offends you. This is bad form, Mitsunari. Please understand that you have nothing to fear. Not if you leave everything to me. MITSUNARI: I give you as much faith as I have, Yoshitsugu. I’ve survived many horrors by trusting my instincts. But I’ll bend to you on this. Hideaki will live.
ISHIGAKIBARU MINES - MITSUNARI, YOSHITSUGU, AND KANBE YOSHITSUGU: Now then... Shall I take Kanbe along with me? KANBE: [Grunts and rises to his feet. He heaves the iron ball at Yoshitsugu.] MITSUNARI: [Jumps in front of Yoshitsugu and blocks the iron ball with his sword. He yells and rushes at Kanbe.] YOSHITSUGU: Hold. MITSUNARI: [He immediately stops short of killing Kanbe, his blade resting still at Kanbe's throat. He sheathes the blade, and smacks Kanbe to the ground with the sword's hilt.] YOSHITSUGU: [Inner narration:] Mitsunari struck down Hideyoshi's subjects one after another, for they had begun to slander me behind my back. I knew they were. I could feel their snide remarks pierce from far away. This vicious man before me, he might be more of an imbecile than I had first thought. [Pauses.] "Relentless," a word many use to describe Mitsunari. But I suspect this is not true. He possesses a weakness he conceals with expert precision. Yes, deep down I believe Mitsunari is a very fragile man. MITSUNARI: What's wrong? YOSHITSUGU: Nothing. I was gazing into the heavens, hoping to be showered with sparkling stardust. MITSUNARI: Stardust, you say? I do not see any stars. Go rest. You are overly exhausted.
SEKIGAHARA - MITSUNARI AND YOSHITSUGU MITSUNARI: No matter what, I shall never forgive you... YOSHITSUGU: Mitsunari, listen to me. Ieyasu's words are his bonds. But those bonds, they can be easily broken with one cut. Broken as easily as you lost Lord Hideyoshi. MITSUNARI: ...Lord Hideyoshi... Ieyasu... I will go to you and I will make you know my suffering. You'll feel my pain as I shred you to pieces! YOSHITSUGU: For certain. Do unto him as he has done unto you. Deprive the villain of his bonds. For every bond you cut, new miseries will rain down upon the earth. Never forget: this is for justice, and for you. Heh heh. [Long pause.] ...Haven't I earned your trust by now? MITSUNARI: Don't make me repeat myself. You already know the answer. [Walks off.] YOSHITSUGU: [Internal monologue.] What glorious miseries will you bring forth, Mitsunari? Or will you bring nothing?
SEKIGAHARA - ENDING CUTSCENE YOSHITSUGU: [Internal monologue:] After everything that's happened, it was you who brought forth all these miseries. My deeds had little effect...or none at all. You have already died once before. You have endured enough strikes and blows to last an entire lifetime. There is nothing left in the world that can hurt you, Mitsunari. Even so, for you to bring forth such dazzling miseries, I cannot imagine... [He envisions Mitsunari smiling at him.] I wonder, how deeply does it hurt you? [The long dream sequences fades. The real Mitsunari turns to him.] MITSUNARI: What's wrong? What? YOSHITSUGU: Nothing. You are truly an amazing fellow, Mitsunari. [The camera pans to the sky.]
SEKIGAHARA, ENDING CUTSCENE YOSHITSUGU: It's here... it's here! Massive misfortune... is scattering all over! After all, the one that called for misfortune was you... Yes... it was not me... not me... You, man once dead... nothing can wound you anymore. Because your wounds are so numerous that no more could be added... Yet, to be able to call for such brilliant misfortune... Your wounds... just how much are they...?
OSAKA CASTLE - BATTLE DIALOG MITSUNARI: Let me pose a question to you before the bloodshed begins, Motochika... what did Yoshitsugu do to awaken your wrath? MOTOCHIKA: You have no idea...? It wasn't Ieyasu who put Shikoku to the sword, but vile Yoshitsugu and Motonari! MITSUNARI: Silence! You would dare spout such lies to my face!? MOTOCHIKA: I speak the truth, sirrah. They conspired to have me slay Ieyasu in their stead. MITSUNARI: It can't be... he told me he despised such trickery... He has behaved damnably... and all the while I did but smile and nod...! MOTOCHIKA: It would seem they played you for the trusting fool, Mitsunari. MITSUNARI: All this time... a pair of wretches had my ear... and fed me whatever lies best served their ends?!
OSAKA CASTLE - CUTSCENE DIALOG MITSUNARI: Nothing angers me more than those who practice betrayal. Death is their reward for having dishonored my name. MOTOCHIKA: Mitsunari... MITSUNARI: I take full responsibility for their evil deeds. I knew not of them, but my ignorance is no excuse...! [He throws his sword to Motochika.] Do with me as you will. Strike me down if you think it just. I don't blame you. MOTOCHIKA: You are nothing if not honorable. And you're honest, most likely to a fault. [Small laugh.] I'm starting to see why people aren't enamored of you. MITSUNARI: Spare me your pointless chatter and kill me! MOTOCHIKA: [Draws the sword and slices it down, stopping just before it reaches Mitsunari's head. Mitsunari does not waver.] Looks like I missed my mark. Come on, we've much to do. MITSUNARI: What is the meaning of this? MOTOCHIKA: You were willing to die for the misdeeds of another. Call me a fool, but I can't slay the righteous. MITSUNARI: ...I don't understand. MOTOCHIKA: [Tosses the sword back to Mitsunari.] Come along or stay behind... but live well. You owe my murdered brothers that much.
OSAKA CASTLE, CUTSCENE DIALOG MITSUNARI: I hate betrayal above anything else... For those who betray...only death awaits! MOTOCHIKA: Ishida... MITSUNARI: Yet, all of a sudden, my hands too have...been smeared with betrayal...without me knowing! Chosokabe Motochika. Do what you want with me. You...have the right to do so. MOTOCHIKA: You sure are straightforward. So straightforward that you got inflexible. Heh, now I get why some people start disliking you. MITSUNARI: This is no time for flattery! Kill me! MOTOCHIKA: Now you're dead. Okay, let's get a move on! MITSUNARI: What are you planning...? MOTOCHIKA: I don't mind guys like you. Stupidly honest, who keep going on even at their own loss. MITSUNARI: Chosokabe... MOTOCHIKA: If you're too slow I'll leave ya behind! I'm...making you live for my men's part too.
OSAKA CASTLE - STAGE DIALOG MOTOCHIKA: Mitsunari Ishida, I wish to speak with you. MITSUNARI: What could you possibly want to talk about, Motochika? You were Lord Hideyoshi's foe, which means we too are in opposition. Or has the sea air addled your senses? MITSUNARI: Perhaps you've sided with Ieyasu? Perhaps you've come to take my head as a souvenir and tie it to the prow of your ship...! MOTOCHIKA: I crave your ear, not the entirety of your head.
OSAKA CASTLE - PRE-BATTLE CUTSCENE MITSUNARI: If you wish to kill Ieyasu, we share this goal in common. MOTOCHIKA: I wish only vengeance. For slaughtered friends. Ieyasu has strayed from the path of the righteous, and with this betrayal his life is forfeit. He is no longer the man I knew! I cannot suffer him to live! MITSUNARI: Your bleeding heart concerns me not in the least, Motochika. That said, to destroy Ieyasu I will ally with you. But if you think for even a moment that I'll allow you the honor of taking his life, you are sorely mistaken! [Goes for his sword.] MOTOCHIKA: I knew you would say such a thing. Allow me to show you...how keenly I wish to split the villain asunder! [Draws his anchor.]
OSAKA CASTLE - MOTOCHIKA VS. MITSUNARI MITSUNARI: You fight from your heart...! But only the weak feel the sting of emotion's whip. I am no such slave, for my heart is cold as stone. MOTOCHIKA: Then on what fuel does your hatred burn and grow strong? There can be no hatred without emotion! Rejoice that you are not the statue you style yourself to be! Feel how the fury sets your heart pounding! My murdered men died in the grip of deceit! MITSUNARI: Still your tongue, pirate! Your philosophy stinks of sentiment! Lose a few sailors and you gnash your teeth? What pain could compare to that of losing Lord Hideyoshi!? You know nothing of my grief! MOTOCHIKA: So at last I see the author of all your intentions... MOTOCHIKA: But still, no man can proclaim his misery sharper than another's.
OSAKA CASTLE - POST-BATTLE CUTSCENE MOTOCHIKA: You have suffered much. I know of such pain. My sympathies. Your anguish is a barb in your soul-- MITSUNARI: SILENCE! Do not presume to know my pain! MOTOCHIKA: Two sides of the same coin, you and I. I hereby join the Western Army. MITSUNARI: [Head jerks in surprise. He slowly lowers his sword, and stabs it into the ground.] Join me or don't, I care not. But know, once you swear fealty to me, ANY BETRAYAL IS DEATH! MOTOCHIKA: Well, you've my word. And I will never dishonor myself. MITSUNARI: Swear upon your soul. MOTOCHIKA: [He offers his hand.] Upon my soul. ...Hn. MITSUNARI: What is it. MOTOCHIKA: A long time ago, I fought with a man and had the bout end much in the manner of this one. Hmph, the world has changed much since then. MITSUNARI: Spare me your puerile ramblings. I don't give a damn. [Walks away.]
OSAKA CASTLE - STAGE DIALOG SHIMAZU: Greetings! Mitsunari! I have come here to see you, the one who beckons forth the new era! MITSUNARI: A "New Era"? I could not care less for such a thing. SHIMAZU: You don't?! Then what exactly is inside your mind? SHIMAZU: You mean to say that you have no desire to rule over all? MITSUNARI: All I sincerely desire... is the death of Ieyasu! SHIMAZU: So you don't even hold out the hope for peace? MITSUNARI: Any hope I had was stolen away from me by Ieyasu! MITSUNARI: The only hope I have left within me is the chance to take Ieyasu's life! There is nothing else I want of this world! MITSUNARI: I care for nothing else! I only hunger for Ieyasu's demise!
OSAKA CASTLE - VS. MITSUNARI MITSUNARI: Shimazu the Beast. Do you also intend to ally yourself with Ieyasu? For if you do, then I shall be forced to kill you as well! SHIMAZU: You've no ambition. You have no hope. Tell me, what is it you do have? MITSUNARI: What do I have? Only the desire to take revenge against Ieyasu! SHIMAZU: I see now. Vengeance is the reason our country is splitting in two...! MITSUNARI: And if this cannot be gained... I care not what happens to me, nor my life! SHIMAZU: To drive a man to such a state of mind... I cannot speak for Ieyasu's innocence. However...
OSAKA CASTLE - POST-BATTLE CUTSCENE MITSUNARI: I refuse to allow you to side with Ieyasu! You shall die here, Shimazu the Beast! SHIMAZU: Please, Mitsunari. You must listen to me. I am not advancing here to side with Ieyasu. MITSUNARI: What? SHIMAZU: From here forth, what do you intend to do? MITSUNARI: I will not repeat myself. All I care for is killing Ieyasu. Everything else be damned. SHIMAZU: Mmm. ...It is my intention to put the older generation to rest, clearing the path for the youth to rebuild this nation once again. But from how it looks to me... you don't even have the desire to live. Mitsunari, I have a proposition. Perhaps it would serve for me to keep an eye on you. MITSUNARI: Begone with you! My affairs are not your concern! SHIMAZU: So you say. But know that Shimazu the Beast now entrusts his life to you.
OPENING CUTSCENE, ODAWARA MASAMUNE: Dammit! Agh, no...! MITSUNARI: All your plans are doomed to fail. After all, to turn against the will of Lord Hideyoshi is to turn against destiny itself. I will have the honor of decimating your forces, as for you, Dragon... rot in hell. MASAMUNE: Bastard!
TAKEDA STAGE MASAMUNE: Mitsunari... Ishida... MITSUNARI: And you are...? MASAMUNE: Long time no see, Mitsunari. I was just headed your way. It must mean something approaching destiny to cross paths with you here again. I'm assuming you're here looking for an alliance with Yukimura. Which is great. That'll save me the trouble of going all the way to Osaka. Because right here, I'm gonna pay you back for last time. MITSUNARI: Good for you. Who are you? MASAMUNE: What... the hell? MITSUNARI: How many times must I say it? I don't know who you are. MASAMUNE: You bastard. You forgot about Odawara? MITSUNARI: Odawara... Difficult yes, but in much better times. For Lord Hideyoshi I fought that battle with everything I had to give. To this day, I still consider it an honor. During that time there was a man whom I defeated. How could I remember his face now? Go away, you annoy me. MASAMUNE: [Lunges for Mitsunari, but Yukimura intercepts.] Yukimura...?! Che, get outta here, Yukimura! YUKIMURA: No! I, Yukimura, cannot allow you to injure a friend in Ueda Castle! Defy me and face the consequences! MASAMUNE: Oh yeah? Then let me go ahead and take care of you first! Let's settle this, once and for all!
OSAKA CASTLE, PRE-BATTLE MITSUNARI: Have you and I met... before? MASAMUNE: Yes. You defeated me at Odawara. MITSUNARI: Oh, that was you? How funny. So that must be why you've come here, seeking another defeat. MASAMUNE: Talk all you want, I don't care. I'm not here seeking any kind of vengeance. I just wanted to tell you... that you're nothin' but a mark in the road. In other words... go to hell. Got it? MITSUNARI: I don't care about the nonsense you spout, but if your goal is to get yourself killed... I will gladly make sure that mouth of yours stays shut for eternity! MASAMUNE: Now it's gettin' interesting! Show me what you've got, Mitsunari Ishida!
OSAKA CASTLE, POST-BATTLE MITSUNARI: How did I lose? To you, of all people? Rgh... I haven't... Ieyasu...! ...Lord Hideyoshi...! KOJURO: So did you forgive him? MASAMUNE: Forgive him? Heh, I'm hardly that commendable of a man. ...His eyes. I've seen them somewhere before. I know I have. KOJURO: Yes. They're just like yours. MASAMUNE: Hell's not a place anyone wants to go. Dead or otherwise. To crawl your way out of there you need a lot of luck. Or somethin' else... KOJURO: Lord Masamune? MASAMUNE: Hah. This isn't like me at all. Kojuro, let's get outta here. KOJURO: Yes, my lord.
OSAKA CASTLE MAGOICHI: We are the Saika Faction! The red bell rings, the pact we have made shall be known to all! Let it toll! Let the bell call out across the land! MITSUNARI: Now that we've formed a pact, forget thoughts of betrayal, towards me or Lord Hideyoshi. As members of the Toyotomi, you belong to him. MAGOICHI: We're our own masters. We have always been. We shall not acknowledge any other. MITSUNARI: Then why did you form a pact with the Toyotomi?! MAGOICHI: Which side we chose did not really matter. Only being shown due respect. Even you, the Dark King as you are called, are no exception. MITSUNARI: [Rushes to attack. She blocks his blade with her gun.] Once I've slain Ieyasu? ...You're next. I will see to the annihilation of the Saika Faction. MAGOICHI: Do not presume to think we can be intimidated. We find such threats to be comical. MITSUNARI: [Glares, sheaths his sword, and walks away.]
SEKIGAHARA, BEGINNING SOLDIER: Boss! MAGOICHI: What now? SOLDIER: Uh, ma'am. Mitsunari has come to our camp alone. MITSUNARI: [Shoves some soldiers out of the way.] Stand aside. MAGOICHI: Hello. Something to discuss? MITSUNARI: Not discussion. Listen, Magoichi. Do not turn your back on me. If you even dare try, you will be cursed. By me, by Lord Hideyoshi, and Yoshitsugu. [He starts to turn around, and then whirls back, putting his sword at her throat.] Is that clear? Cursed for the rest of your miserable life! [Now he walks away in seriousness.] MAGOICHI: What was all that? He certainly had something to prove.
SEKIGAHARA, AFTER KILLING IEYASU MAGOICHI: [Inhales, exhales.] Suppose our work here is done. Where's Mitsunari? SOLDIER: Ma'am, he's...over there, laughing... MAGOICHI: ...? Ah well. Let us call an end to this pact. Our duty is fulfilled. We should make a quick departure. We are the proud Saika Faction! The red bell, the symbol of our pact, has now been--! MITSUNARI: [Interrupts her.] Magoichi-! [Pushes a soldier out of his way again.] MAGOICHI: What do you want now? We fulfilled our contract, our business is concluded. MITSUNARI: No! You misunderstand. This is about our next pact. MAGOICHI: What next pact? MITSUNARI: There is still much work to be done. I won't take no for an answer. MAGOICHI: Are you attempting a compliment? MITSUNARI: Yes, fine, don't make me repeat myself. MAGOICHI: [She chuckles.] It's not so bad, your way of life. A bit harsh, a difficult path to be sure. We are the proud Saika Faction! The red bell rings, the pact we have made will be known to all! We shall aid your cause to the bitter end, until our last life falls! So...this is the path we are to follow. [She smiles.]
STAGE SELECT MITSUNARI: Let me make one thing explicit to you, Motonari Mori... I will never forgive you for your betrayal. And if you ever dare turn your back on me... I will kill you by Ieyasu’s side! YOSHITSUGU: Easy Mitsunari. You need not worry about a thing. And do not forget, Motonari, that you and I share an eternal bond of friendship. MOTONARI: Your interests and mine and perfectly aligned. Really, there is nothing more we need discuss. You always have to worry about something, don’t you, Yoshitsugu? YOSHITSUGU: I only do this for justice, and to expand Mitsunari’s influence. Now, as for your duties, are you clear? MOTONARI: Yes... crystal.
OSAKA CASTLE - STAGE DIALOG YOSHITSUGU: Observe, Mitsunari. She is eating out of our hands... One must merely smile and make niceties to win her favor. MITSUNARI: I will have none of it... That is your job.
OSAKA CASTLE - VS. MITSUNARI MITSUNARI: Do not desecrate the sanctuary of our Lord Hideyoshi! TSURUHIME: I've never met someone as direct as you... TSURUHIME: I heard you longed for a world of peace... Nothing could be more honorable. MITSUNARI: Hmph! What nonsense Yoshitsugu speaks. TSURUHIME: I myself would also like to protect my hometown. MITSUNARI: Well, let's have it... Will you obey me or not? ...What do you say? TSURUHIME: I am so moved that you hold me in such high regard. MITSUNARI: I will not ask again! Will you obey me!? MITSUNARI: You are a nuisance... not worth my time. TSURUHIME: My goodness, you certainly are impatient. [Mitsunari is defeated.] TSURUHIME: So, what do you think? How was I?
SEKIGAHARA - VS. YOSHITSUGU TSURUHIME: I sympathize with Mitsunari, who must endure your treacherous ways. YOSHITSUGU: Mitsunari isn’t as much of a fool as you are. He doesn't believe everything I say.
SEKIGAHARA, VS. MITSUNARI MITSUNARI: I have no tolerance for those who know not loyalty. You are a traitor, Oracle. And to me, that is unforgivable. TSURUHIME:I am not a traitor. You are the one being deceived. MITSUNARI: We are surrounded by lies... What of it? ...It changes nothing. You still betrayed me! TSURUHIME: You should learn how to take after my Twilight Ninja. He is far more pleasant than you. KOTARO: ... MITSUNARI: Then I shall grant you the honor of dying... together! KOTARO: ... TSURUHIME: You had better watch out. My ninja will be here any second!
SEKIGAHARA - OICHI AND IEYASU OICHI: Such a crook... should be sentenced to death. IEYASU: Oichi... you should never speak that way. OICHI: Why not...? IEYASU: Um. Well, you see... he and I used to... serve in the same force. He was quite stubborn, so he was constantly losing his temper. OICHI: Oh my... IEYASU: As a result of this behavior he made many enemies. However, that never seemed to concern him. Back in those days, Mitsunari seemed to possess... qualities of both darkness and light. OICHI: Both darkness... and light... IEYASU: People admired his exceptional abilities. He gained respect for fearlessly presenting his true nature. I’ll admit, I was envious of him because of this. OICHI: Lord Happy... do you feel regret, because you must fight him? IEYASU: To be honest, Oichi, he and I are enemies because... there are things upon which we can’t compromise. Mitsunari... now there’s a man worth going up against. That’s the reason I fight, with all my strength. Think, Oichi... have you ever tried to protect something you valued dearly? It’s much the same. OICHI: A precious thing... IEYASU: Yes. It slumbers, deep in your heart. But even so, you may no longer remember it. OICHI: It slumbers...
MITSUNARI AS PLAYER CHARACTER MITSUNARI: You've seen what I am capable of... How is it you have not yet run away?
MITSUNARI: [Low health:] I will not fall, but stand proud like Lord Hideyoshi!
MITSUNARI: I will snap your neck in two!
MITSUNARI: What did they think was worth protecting here?
MITSUNARI: That's right, be afraid! Cower before me in the filth, you rats!
MITSUNARI: I will annihilate all your little pawns!
MITSUNARI: You are to keep advancing... no matter what!
MITSUNARI: Go ahead and scream! I will cast you into an abyss of eternal despair!
MITSUNARI: You are nothing but a nuisance, wasting my time!
MITSUNARI: You are a petty vexation... a problem easily remedied.
MITSUNARI: Pray...? Who would deem your prayers worth hearing?
MITSUNARI: It appears you’ll not be satisfied until I’ve destroyed you all!
MITSUNARI: How many more must I slay before I have your head on a pike?
MITSUNARI: Why does everyone oppose us?
MITSUNARI AS OPPONENT MITSUNARI: Not again... I cannot allow history to repeat itself...!
MITSUNARI: Lord Hideyoshi, has this pleased you?
MITSUNARI: Kill me! Leave me to die in a pool of my own blood!
MITSUNARI: That's it, go on! Try to beat me!
MITSUNARI: [Defeated, alive:] I grow weary...
MITSUNARI: [Defeated, killed:] Lord Hideyoshi... I have yet to earn my death.
MITSUNARI: I shall kill any and all of those who dare obstruct me!
MITSUNARI: It turns my stomach to see someone like you on this battlefield.
MITSUNARI: It was your own choices that lead to this.
MITSUNARI: [Addressing a soldier:] That is an enemy of Lord Hideyoshi. Take action, and kill them.
MITSUNARI: I'll live to hate another day!
MITSUNARI: All my fond memories are soiled by the tragedy of that day...
YOSHITSUGU AS PLAYER CHARACTER MITSUNARI: He is almost as wise as Lord Hanbei!
MITSUNARI: Now that our path is clear, I shall advance.
MITSUNARI: Do not make me repeat myself... I will not allow you to die.
MITSUNARI: Do not stop, Yoshitsugu, continue to the end.
MITSUNARI: Finish this quickly, Yoshitsugu, we do not have time to spare.
MITSUNARI: Search the camp! Leave no man standing!
MITSUNARI: What manner of plan leaves our forces vulnerable, Yoshitsugu?
MITSUNARI: Yoshitsugu's beads never seem to miss their mark.
OSAKA CASTLE ENCOUNTER DIALOG MITSUNARI: May blood rain down, baptizing me, absolving me, allowing me to purge the traitors from these lands! I beg of you, grant me permission to slaughter these foul men. Lord Hideyoshi... it is in your name I fight... until the end.
VICTORY CUTSCENE MITSUNARI: I cannot wait to confront him. His throat collapsing within my hand, slowly... Lord Hideyoshi, I ask you humbly... forgive me for what I must do.
OSAKA CASTLE, PLAYER VS YOSHITSUGU DIALOG MITSUNARI: What are you doing? Our fortunes don't matter. YOSHITSUGU: Right you are. Let us trust the fates. Shall we move on?
YOSHITSUGU: I fear that my time on this earth may be coming to an end. MITSUNARI: Silence, Yoshitsugu! I will not allow you to die!
OSAKA CASTLE, IF YOSHITSUGU IS DEFEATED AND ALIVE YOSHITSUGU: You yearn to win beyond all else. Is that your foolish wish? MITSUNARI: Fall back, Yoshitsugu! Leave the rest to me!
OSAKA CASTLE, IF YOSHITSUGU IS KILLED YOSHITSUGU: Is this... the end? Am I to leave him behind? MITSUNARI:NO! YOU CANNOT DIE! MITSUNARI: [Player character is midway up the stairs, Mitsunari sounding pained:] How could you do this to me? [If Yoshitsugu is killed in Motochika's green route:] MITSUNARI: ...

MITSUNARI RED ROUTE
MITSUNARI RED ROUTE, PART 1
YOSHITSUGU: Is it clear to you now, Mitsunari?
STAGE SELECT - SAIKA STRONGHOLD
MITSUNARI: Quickly Yoshitsugu! We cannot allow Ieyasu to simply do as he pleases!
YOSHITSUGU: Gracious no! After you, sir.
SAIKA STRONGHOLD - STAGE DIALOG
MAGOICHI: I welcome you Mitsunari.
SAIKA STRONGHOLD - WITH MAGOICHI AND IEYASU
MITSUNARI: [Hears the red bell, realizes Ieyasu has made a pact with the Saika.] Ieyasu... IEYASU-! [He runs forward and attacks Ieyasu.]
IEYASU: [Blocks his blade.] Mitsu...nari...! You came to the Saika, as I did.
MAGOICHI: [Shoots at Mitsunari. He blocks with the blade and jumps backwards.]
MITSUNARI: None of that matters anymore. Prepare yourself, Ieyasu! I'm going to kill you here and now! But you, Magoichi Saika, you stay out of this.
MAGOICHI: You forget this is our land, and you are an intruder. [Honda flies down and Ieyasu jumps on his back to escape.]
MITSUNARI: Ieyasu, don't you dare run away! IEYASUUU! ...Magoichi... how dare you?!
MAGOICHI: What? Do you have something to say to me?
MITSUNARI: Lord Hideyoshi, please grant me permission to kill her! [He runs forward and the battle begins.]
SAIKA STRONGHOLD - VS. MAGOICHI
MITSUNARI: I came to you in good faith.
STAGE SELECT
MITSUNARI: Ieyasu...
KARASU CASTLE - STAGE DIALOG
HIDEAKI: Oh...
HIDEAKI
MITSUNARI: Hideaki...
KARASU CASTLE - WITH HIDEAKI
MITSUNARI: [Grabs Hideaki by the collar and lifts him up.] You're going to say it.
STAGE SELECT
YOSHITSUGU: Mitsunari, I don’t mean to alarm you, but it seems Ujimasa has formed an alliance with Ieyasu.
STAGE SELECT - NOSHIMA
YOSHITSUGU: Mitsunari... may I make a suggestion?
MITSUNARI: Go ahead, Yoshitsugu. Speak up.
YOSHITSUGU: I have approached the Oracle, in an attempt to persuade her to ally with the Western Army.
MITSUNARI: What are you talki- Oh... That Oracle.
YOSHITSUGU: That Oracle. Her power would be quite an asset. Don’t you agree?
MITSUNARI: Must I keep repeating myself? Of course it would be an asset! Now, let us be off.
YOSHITSUGU: I am here to serve your wisdom, sir.
NOSHIMA - STAGE DIALOG
TSURUHIME: Well, there you are!
TSURUHIME
TSURUHIME: Shame on you, Yoshitsugu!
[Tsuruhime defeated.]
YOSHITSUGU: She’s gone... straight to the Eastern Army. Despite her modest exterior, she is quite the lady of action.
MITSUNARI: Then after I finish with Ieyasu, her head will be the next that I collect.
MITSUNARI RED ROUTE, PART 2
MOTOCHIKA: Mitsunari Ishida, I wish to speak with you!
MITSUNARI: What could you possibly want to talk about, Motochika? You were Lord Hideyoshi's foe, which means we, too, are in opposition. Or has the sea air addled your senses?
[The above exchange is also in Motochika's red route.]
MITSUNARI: Here you are, asking for an alliance for no reason I can clearly see.
MOTOCHIKA
MITSUNARI: So explain to me why you wish to form an alliance.
NAKATOMIGAWA - POST-BATTLE
MOTOCHIKA: [He's crouching as usual.] Agh... Well done. Hmph, now I'm sure an alliance with you will succeed. [He stands up, and offers his hand to Mitsunari.]
MITSUNARI: [Looks at him, looks at his hand, and looks away.]
MOTOCHIKA: [His hand drops to his side.
YUKIMURA ALLIES WITH MITSUNARI
YUKIMURA: Hellooo! Greetings to you! I am Yukimura Sanada! I have come today, in the hope of meeting the general... Mitsunari Ishida. So that joined together... we can fight Ieyasu!
STAGE SELECT - ITSUKUSHIMA
YOSHITSUGU: Understand, Mitsunari.
Mistranslation/localization quirk?]
YOSHITSUGU: Perhaps.
[BONUS DIALOG IN YOSHITSUGU'S RED ROUTE]
YOSHITSUGU: You are wise beyond your years, Mitsunari. Remember young warrior, everything I do is for justice, and for you.
ITSUKUSHIMA - STAGE DIALOG
MITSUNARI: Do as I say, and don’t you dare talk back to me!
MOTONARI: You ignorant fool... How dare you speak to me in such a manner?
YOSHITSUGU: My apologies, Motonari. He can be very rude.
MOTONARI: I don’t want apologies. I want restitution.
ITSUKUSHIMA - VS. MOTONARI
MITSUNARI: I demand your obedience!
ITSUKUSHIMA - AFTER DEFEATING MOTONARI
MOTONARI: [Injured, he falls to one knee.]
MITSUNARI: I'm not going to repeat myself.
MITSUNARI: [Puts his hand on his sword as a warning.]
MOTONARI: If I were to die, you would stand alone against Ieyasu. ...So go ahead and kill me. [He stares him down.]
MITSUNARI: [Stares right back at him... and then relaxes his stance.]
STAGE SELECT
YOSHITSUGU: I fear we might be in a bit of trouble, Mitsunari.
ISHIGAKIBARU - STAGE DIALOG
MITSUNARI: The time has come.
KANBE
KANBE: Yeah, that’s not gonna happen.
MITSUNARI RED ROUTE, PART 3
YOSHITSUGU: Mitsunari... I fear we may have been dealt another foul hand.
MITSUNARI: Again?
STAGE SELECT - SEKIGAHARA
MITSUNARI: The time has finally come! Lord Hideyoshi, in the battle to come, please grant me the strength to do what is necessary to find victory. And when the battle is over, grant me forgiveness for what I have done.
SEKIGAHARA - WITH YOSHITSUGU AND HIDEAKI
MITSUNARI: Ridiculous. How much longer must I wait?
YOSHITSUGU: Have patience, Mitsunari--
MITSUNARI: I can bear it no longer! It's time! And don't you dare try and stop me! [He turns, only to see Hideaki.]
HIDEAKI: Enough! I've had enough! Finally I can say how much I hate you! I won't betray Ieyasu no matter what! So go away! The only person I'd betray is Mitsunari!
MITSUNARI: You... traitorous... cur!
HIDEAKI: [Screams and runs away.]
MITSUNARI: Ieyasu, I'LL KILL YOUUU!
SEKIGAHARA - STAGE DIALOG
[Gonna have to come back to this at some point to fix it up.]
MITSUNARI: Ieyasu! Ieyasu!
[Not sure if this is generic dialog or not.]
MITSUNARI: You took everything from me when I had done nothing!
SEKIGAHARA - CONFRONTING IEYASU
MITSUNARI: Though you have assembled a mighty army... and though you have spoken your pretty speeches... even now, I still see right through you. Ieyasu... your sins have found you out!
IEYASU
MITSUNARI: I've had enough of your lies to last a lifetime!
SEKIGAHARA - AFTER KILLING IEYASU
MITSUNARI: [Laughter.] He's dead!
POST-CREDITS
MITSUNARI: I feel my spirit begin to wane... for it is done...
MITSUNARI BLUE ROUTE
Re: MITSUNARI BLUE ROUTE
MITSUNARI: [Brief scuffle.] Kanbe...
[He rushes at him.]
[Battle dialog:]
MITSUNARI: Run away, and never return! Else, I'll squeeze a cry for mercy from your throat!
KANBE: Such a pretty mouth on you.
SEKIGAHARA, WITH MASAMUNE
MASAMUNE: I bet it seems like you've had nothing but disappointments since you began your travels.
SEKIGAHARA, WITH YOSHITSUGU AFTER KILLING MASAMUNE
MITSUNARI: He said I am unfit to inherit my lord's command.
IEYASU RED ROUTE
IEYASU RED ROUTE
GENERAL: My lord!
Hah... ahahaha...
MOTOCHIKA ALLIES WITH MITSUNARI
IEYASU: Heh.
IEYASU
MITSUNARI: Laugh, Ieyasu!
FLASHBACK - IEYASU AND MITSUNARI
MITSUNARI: I've devoted my life to his lordship Hideyoshi.
IEYASU BLUE ROUTE
Re: IEYASU BLUE ROUTE
YOSHITSUGU RED ROUTE
YOSHITSUGU RED ROUTE
YOSHITSUGU: It's not yet rained, not with these stars that I see before me.
It is time.
STAGE SELECT - KARASU CASTLE
YOSHITSUGU: Assuring Hideaki’s obedience will not be a problem.
ISHIGAKIBARU MINES - MITSUNARI, YOSHITSUGU, AND KANBE
YOSHITSUGU: Now then... Shall I take Kanbe along with me?
KANBE: [Grunts and rises to his feet. He heaves the iron ball at Yoshitsugu.]
MITSUNARI: [Jumps in front of Yoshitsugu and blocks the iron ball with his sword. He yells and rushes at Kanbe.]
YOSHITSUGU: Hold.
MITSUNARI: [He immediately stops short of killing Kanbe, his blade resting still at Kanbe's throat. He sheathes the blade, and smacks Kanbe to the ground with the sword's hilt.]
YOSHITSUGU: [Inner narration:] Mitsunari struck down Hideyoshi's subjects one after another, for they had begun to slander me behind my back.
SEKIGAHARA - MITSUNARI AND YOSHITSUGU
MITSUNARI: No matter what, I shall never forgive you...
[Walks off.]
YOSHITSUGU: [Internal monologue.] What glorious miseries will you bring forth, Mitsunari? Or will you bring nothing?
SEKIGAHARA - ENDING CUTSCENE
YOSHITSUGU: [Internal monologue:] After everything that's happened, it was you who brought forth all these miseries. The real Mitsunari turns to him.]
MITSUNARI: What's wrong? What?
YOSHITSUGU: Nothing. You are truly an amazing fellow, Mitsunari. [The camera pans to the sky.]
JAPANESE CUTSCENES
YOSHITSUGU: It's here...
MOTOCHIKA GREEN ROUTE
Re: MOTOCHIKA GREEN ROUTE
MITSUNARI: Let me pose a question to you before the bloodshed begins, Motochika... what did Yoshitsugu do to awaken your wrath?
OSAKA CASTLE - CUTSCENE DIALOG
MITSUNARI: Nothing angers me more than those who practice betrayal.
JAPANESE CUTSCENES
MITSUNARI: I hate betrayal above anything else...
MOTOCHIKA RED ROUTE
Re: MOTOCHIKA RED ROUTE
MOTOCHIKA: Mitsunari Ishida, I wish to speak with you.
OSAKA CASTLE - PRE-BATTLE CUTSCENE
MITSUNARI: If you wish to kill Ieyasu, we share this goal in common.
[Goes for his sword.]
MOTOCHIKA: I knew you would say such a thing. Allow me to show you...how keenly I wish to split the villain asunder! [Draws his anchor.]
OSAKA CASTLE - MOTOCHIKA VS. MITSUNARI
MITSUNARI: You fight from your heart...!
OSAKA CASTLE - POST-BATTLE CUTSCENE
MOTOCHIKA: You have suffered much. I know of such pain. My sympathies. Your anguish is a barb in your soul--
MITSUNARI: SILENCE!
SHIMAZU RED ROUTE
SHIMAZU RED ROUTE
SHIMAZU: Greetings!
MITSUNARI
MITSUNARI: Shimazu the Beast.
However...
OSAKA CASTLE - POST-BATTLE CUTSCENE
MITSUNARI: I refuse to allow you to side with Ieyasu!
MASAMUNE RED ROUTE
MASAMUNE RED ROUTE
MASAMUNE: Dammit! Agh, no...!
MITSUNARI: All your plans are doomed to fail. After all, to turn against the will of Lord Hideyoshi is to turn against destiny itself. I will have the honor of decimating your forces, as for you, Dragon... rot in hell.
MASAMUNE: Bastard!
TAKEDA STAGE
MASAMUNE: Mitsunari...
OSAKA CASTLE, PRE-BATTLE
MITSUNARI: Have you and I met...
OSAKA CASTLE, POST-BATTLE
MITSUNARI: How did I lose? To you, of all people? Rgh... I haven't... Ieyasu...! ...Lord Hideyoshi...!
KOJURO: So did you forgive him?
MASAMUNE: Forgive him? Heh, I'm hardly that commendable of a man. ...His eyes. I've seen them somewhere before. I know I have.
KOJURO: Yes. They're just like yours.
MASAMUNE: Hell's not a place anyone wants to go. Dead or otherwise. To crawl your way out of there you need a lot of luck. Or somethin' else...
KOJURO: Lord Masamune?
MASAMUNE: Hah. This isn't like me at all. Kojuro, let's get outta here.
KOJURO: Yes, my lord.
MAGOICHI BLUE ROUTE
Re: MAGOICHI BLUE ROUTE
MAGOICHI: We are the Saika Faction!
SEKIGAHARA, BEGINNING
SOLDIER: Boss!
[Now he walks away in seriousness.]
MAGOICHI: What was all that? He certainly had something to prove.
SEKIGAHARA, AFTER KILLING IEYASU
MAGOICHI: [Inhales, exhales.] Suppose our work here is done.
[Pushes a soldier out of his way again.]
MAGOICHI: What do you want now?
MOTONARI RED ROUTE
MOTONARI RED ROUTE
MITSUNARI: Let me make one thing explicit to you, Motonari Mori...
MOTONARI: Yes... crystal.
TSURUHIME RED ROUTE
TSURUHIME RED ROUTE
YOSHITSUGU: Observe, Mitsunari. She is eating out of our hands... One must merely smile and make niceties to win her favor.
MITSUNARI: I will have none of it... That is your job.
OSAKA CASTLE - VS. MITSUNARI
MITSUNARI: Do not desecrate the sanctuary of our Lord Hideyoshi!
[Mitsunari is defeated.]
TSURUHIME: So, what do you think? How was I?
SEKIGAHARA - VS. YOSHITSUGU
TSURUHIME: I sympathize with Mitsunari, who must endure your treacherous ways.
YOSHITSUGU: Mitsunari isn’t as much of a fool as you are. He doesn't believe everything I say.
SEKIGAHARA, VS. MITSUNARI
MITSUNARI: I have no tolerance for those who know not loyalty. You are a traitor, Oracle. And to me, that is unforgivable.
TSURUHIME: I am not a traitor.
OICHI RED ROUTE
OICHI RED ROUTE
OICHI: Such a crook... should be sentenced to death.

MISC SB3 DIALOG
MITSUNARI: You've seen what I am capable of...
MITSUNARI AS OPPONENT
MITSUNARI: Not again...
YOSHITSUGU AS PLAYER CHARACTER
MITSUNARI: He is almost as wise as Lord Hanbei!
OSAKA CASTLE ENCOUNTER DIALOG
MITSUNARI: May blood rain down, baptizing me, absolving me, allowing me to purge the traitors from these lands! I beg of you, grant me permission to slaughter these foul men. Lord Hideyoshi... it is in your name I fight... until the end.
VICTORY CUTSCENE
MITSUNARI: I cannot wait to confront him. His throat collapsing within my hand, slowly... Lord Hideyoshi, I ask you humbly... forgive me for what I must do.
OSAKA CASTLE, PLAYER VS YOSHITSUGU DIALOG
MITSUNARI: What are you doing? Our fortunes don't matter.
YOSHITSUGU: Right you are. Let us trust the fates. Shall we move on?
YOSHITSUGU: I fear that my time on this earth may be coming to an end.
MITSUNARI: Silence, Yoshitsugu! I will not allow you to die!
OSAKA CASTLE, IF YOSHITSUGU IS DEFEATED AND ALIVE
YOSHITSUGU: You yearn to win beyond all else. Is that your foolish wish?
MITSUNARI: Fall back, Yoshitsugu! Leave the rest to me!
OSAKA CASTLE, IF YOSHITSUGU IS KILLED
YOSHITSUGU: Is this... the end? Am I to leave him behind?
MITSUNARI: NO! YOU CANNOT DIE!
MITSUNARI: [Player character is midway up the stairs, Mitsunari sounding pained:] How could you do this to me?

Q. What kind of life does Mitsunari usually lead?
A. He doesn’t eat.
Q. What was Mitsunari like before he met Hideyoshi?
A. He was lonely and unable to trust people. He viewed the whole world with suspicion. In some ways, I guess he was similar to the way Sakon was in the past. (source)
